Are You A Manager Or Are You A Leader?

In my men’s small group this morning one of the guys asked me what’s the difference between a manager and a leader. I wanted to come up with the perfect answer. I said that a manager and leader are the same. I was wrong. The manager just makes sure each person does their assigned tasks and the tasks are done in a timely matter. The managerĀ  follows procedures, rules, and structures of the organization. The manager maintains control. The manager has a short-range view. The leader, in contrast, inspires a person. The leader encourages the team to try new things. The leader gives up control and lets the team grow on their own. The leader motivates the team to take action.

In every position you have had. Can you say your manager was a good leader?

I found an article in “Changing Minds.Org” that best illustrates the differences with a chart here.
